DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY

Brief Summary

Digital photography encompasses every single variable when creating or altering images using a computer. It is possible to create an exclusively digital image (using digital cameras) or get a digital image (with a scanner) from a photo obtained in the traditional way.
It is important to take into account the origin and purpose of each image.

The following are non-digital origins: negatives, slides, printed photos (in photographic paper, magazines, newspapers), drawings, etc. The digital process (bringing the image into the computer) is done using scanners.
Digital photographs are obtained using cameras that save the image in a software that a computer can read automatically.

The target can be a printed picture for a photo frame, a picture for an Internet site, a booklet, a catalog, a digital album (photo albums seen in a computer), a fact-sheet printed at home or at work, etc.

No photographic process is fully digital. A film camera, even if it is electronic, does not register images digitally, although there are some special accessories to do it. There are many variables in the developing process. A film is developed in a minilab and printed copies are made from negatives. This process is being digitalized now.

Our company works with the conventional photography system, an only-digital system, and a combination of both. The optimum use of these resources depends on the requirements of each work.

Instantaneous Photography

It can take just a few minutes now for a person living in Japan, or wherever there is a a telephone connection, to see a photo just taken in Uruguay.
Do you have a product to be printed as a photo in five minutes? Done.
Do they have to see it in Singapore? Ready.

Photography per hour

We are the forerunners of this kind of photography giving the best prices for mass-photographs. Each product requires certain elements to be in place in a studio: the light, to right optic, and the most appropriate angle.
If there are several products that are similar and may not necessarily require an adjustment after every shot, the working time is considerably reduced. Therefore, in this case it does not matter how many photos are taken but the time spent on them.

This system is exclusively applied to the digital format. For further details and instructions to optimize this resource send us an empty e-mail to

SCANNING

Brief description of applications: Good quality scanning of a negative is always better than a copy on paper since it avoids that intermediate step. For example, since there is only one original of slides it may be lost, damaged or it may simply be too difficult to see. A computer with a CD-ROM can make approximately 7,000 (!!) full screen slides. The advantage is that the original is backed up and handled only to be scanned. Imagine 7,000 slides in one same flat container called Compact Disc!

Frames must be in good conditions and made of the same material for the entire film. Otherwise no homogenous quality of images can be guaranteed and prices in the chart above are not applicable since individual attention is required (Chart 1).
Individual attention of each slide means that correction is available when previewing the scanning; it does not involve any retouching to be made afterwards.

CONVENTIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY

Brief description
Conventional photography uses positive or negative sensitive material as the original image retention (photographic film).

Several formats are used: 135 (also known as 35mm) for 24mm x 36 mm images; 120 for 60mm wide and 45, 60, 70, 90, and 170mm long (the latter for panoramic photos); photographic plates in 4” x 5”, 8” x 10”, etc.

Choice depends on various factors such as the purpose of that image. A half-page photo print for a magazine will be clearer and better defined using a 60mm x 90mm transparency (120 format) than a 24mm x 36mm (135 format) because the enlargement is smaller in the first case. This means that a 14cm x 21cm photo must be enlarged 2.3 times whereas the second photo must be enlarged 5.8 times.

A good quality image requires a good photographic optic, a good scanner and scanning process, good photomechanical films, a good printer and printing material for an offset system.
